Following the arrest of Hushpuppi along with Ponle Woodberry and their gang, rumours have been going around as to why, who and what led them to the FBI.
Kemi Olunloyo, Nigeria’s investigative journalists lead the idea that the Russians were behind the arrest after Hushpuppi and gang ran away with money they made in a deal Russians hackers.
Other rumours surround the same story but supposedly, the deal was made with people of Dubai and Nigeria.
But did revelations in FBI affidavit submitted to prosecute Hushpuppi and Woodberry reveal how they gathered evidence that lead to their arrest?
In the affidavit, it was revealed that co-conspirator 1 was arrested at an airport in October 2019 as he left the USA.
This is some 8 months before Hushpuppi’s arrest allowing the FBI gain access to co-conspirator 1’s phone that showed loads of evidences of their criminal ways.
Text messages from Co-conspirator 1’s phone also implicated Woodberry. It showed co-conspirator 1 helped to secure the opening of an account in a US company’s name for Woodberry and ensured funds were directed there.
However prior to arresting co-conspirator 1, an undercover agent had already worked with Woodberry pretending to be an associate, opening a two of accounts for him.
It transpires that the FBI has long been watching Hushpuppi, Woodberry and co for some good months, gathering evidences before making their move.
Kemi Olunyoyo in a Youtube video suggested how the Russians may have been the ones involved in their arrest.
In every rumour there is some truth.
According to Kemi, the alleged whole plan was to steal $100 million of the United States Department of Health and Human Services money allocated to certain states for the cov-19 pandemic. The Russians hackers allegedly agreed they will get 65% of the money while Hush and gang can keep 35%.
Hush and gang are said to have successfully got the money out but then scammed the Russians of their own share hence leaked him to the Americans.
While there may be some truth, Kemi did also say Hushpuppi no longer hold a Nigerian passport after renouncing his citizenship to gain a UAE one. Which turned out to be untrue.
