Emdee Tiamiyu is currently public enemy number 1 to Nigerians at home and abroad following his BBC “exposee” interview on his fellow country men.

Approached by the BBC team for an interview on an insight into revelations that a fifth of international students visa was issued to Nigerian, Emdee told the news giant that “so the student thing, its not like they need a degree, they need the degree as an access route to come into the UK.

“So a lot of these people their priorities shifted real fast. Its not really about the education”

Mr Tiamiyu himself came to the UK as a dependent in September 2022 and have a YouTube channel where he advises his fellow on how to “japa” and the best places to go for example the United Kingdom.

Japa is a Yoruba language term meaning “run” or “escape”. It became an iconic word in Nigeria as many fled the country following student and dependent visa opportunities.

A total of 120,000 Nigerians – the most for any foreign students national – are said to have entered the UK last year, with almost half of them being dependents.

As a result, Home Office’s Suella Braverman announced plans to stop international students from bringing in dependents, to come into force from January 2024.
