British Nigerian, Emmanuel of Romford, Essex, died at the hands of selfish thieves who stabbed him after taking a Patel Philippe watch he was wearing.

The thieves had been tipped off by security guard Kavindu Hettiarachchi to come to Haz restaurant where the music manager was having a celebratory birthday dinner. As Mr Odunlami left the eatery, a group of killers ambushed and demanded for his watch. They chased and attacked him near St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

He was found dying from a stab wound at 11.30 pm on May 1 2022 in Gresham street. Despite officers at the scene giving him CPR, Emmanuel, aged 32, died at the hospital leaving behind a devastated fiancé with children.

A GoFundMe page was opened to support the family who paid tribute: “Emmanuel was a loving father, fiancé, son, brother, family member and friend who was unjustly taken ahead of his time.

“He was celebrating his birthday on the bank holiday weekend when he was sadly taken from us.

“Emmanuel was immensely loved by all who knew him. He had a kind heart, a bright smile and a genuine soul.

“Rest in perfect peace Emmanuel Odunlami. We love and miss you forever.”

Four men are facing trial over the death of Mr Odunlami. Jordell Menzies, 26, of Queen’s Park, and 27-year-old Quincy Ffrench-Yethman, of Tottenham, is charged with murder.

Louis Vandrose, 33, of Islington, was arrested in Portugal, extradicted to UK and charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery while Kavindu Hettiarachi, 30, of Harrow, is charged with manslaughter, robbery, and two counts of possession of a false ID document.

A court heard that Hettiarachchi was hired by the events organiser for the private ticketed brunch and afterparty with DJ, and was supposed to be guarding the event, rather he did the opposite.

Hettiarachchi was seen on CCTV calling Louis Vandrose, one of the robbers who along with Jordell and Quincy drove to the location.

The trial continues.
