A lady has taken to social media to narrate the ordeal of a woman who moved to the UK as a student in the last six months with her husband and five children.
The woman had called the lady, who is narrating her story, to borrow money after realising the hardship she came to face in the UK.
The family had been doing averagely well in Nigeria, but as the student visa opportunity came, the wife persuaded her husband to pack up and move to UK.
They sold their car, properties and borrowed to be able to make part payment of the school fees, visa application fees and health surcharge.
Average school fees for international students is around £13,000 plus application fee which is £715 (approximately £5,000 for seven people) and health surcharge of £624 per (a minimum of £4,385 for all them). In total the family would have paid minimum of £13,000 (over 11million naira) along with demonstrating that they had at least 10million Naira in their account to be granted the student visa. This excludes, living costs, food, children and clothing.
The next step, should the woman not get a job, is getting a post study visa which requires a fresh new application and health surcharge fees. Her husband, who was her dependent and is allowed to work freely without restrictions, worked full time but it is not enough for them to live on let alone use for application.
The ordeal is an highlight of what many people are facing after getting a visa, coming to the UK and discovering that next steps ahead are challenging.
