Ex-Governor of Lagos State and All People Congress party candidate, Bola Asiwaju Tinubu is officially the President of Nigeria – based on election stats.
The 70 year old won the most votes with 8,775,412 and hit the minimum 25% requirement in 30 out of 37 states in Nigeria.
According to law set out in section 134 of the constitution, a candidate must meet two criteria:
- Must have majority of the vote casted at election, and
- Have at least 25% of votes in at least 24 States plus Abuja
Tinubu won the most votes in the following states Benue, Borno, Ekiti, Jigawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Rivers and Zamfara.
Not far off behind him was the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s Atiku who won 6,759,603 votes in total and the following states Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Gombe, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Osun, Sokoto, Taraba and Yobe.
Labour Party’s Peter Obi fought a good fight with the two giants, winning 6,101.994 votes and taking some of the most important states in the country – Lagos and Abuja.
The 61 year old won in the following states Abia, Anambra, Cross Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Nasarawa, Plateau and FCT Abuja.
PDP only met the 25% minimum requirement in 22 state while LP met it in 15.
New Nigeria’s People Party (NNPP)’s Kwankwaso took one state from the major party, Kano. The 66 year old ex-Governor of Kano, gained a total of 1,478,707.
