The 20 year old Nigerian first caught the attention of fans with Away in January 2021, by July of same year, she had dropped another banger – Bloody Samaritan.

A little over a year later, Rush is swinging the souls of fans worldwide. Sing along with the lyrics and find out its meaning.


1. What the song Rush about

Ayra Starr is essentially singing about money. How she has no time for talking, she is only interested in money and has to hustle to put food on the table.

As with many music generally, the song is not coherent but there is an underlying message.

Her hustling is paying off, infact over-flowing as she tells enemies who are chasing her – checking if she is really making money, if her kudi is really ‘rushing’.

Kudi means money from Hausa language originating from Northern Nigeria.

2. A little about Ayra Starr

Ayra Starr was born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe in 14 June 2002, into a musically gifted family by mother Susan Aderibigbe. Susan loves dancing to music on her TikTok channel @neneaderibigbe.

Born in Cotonou, Benin Republic but raised in Kwara state, the 20 year old has 3 siblings one of whom is also a musician, Dami who goes by the name Milar.

While pursuing music, Ayra became a model. Encouraged by her mother, aunt and brother, she would often record cover albums and upload on Instagram. This is how she met legendary Nigerian music producer, Don Jazzy.

Ayra is a beautiful Arabic name pronounced i~ra, meaning open minded and respected. The beauty who lost her father some years back self-titled herself Ayra Starr as a stage name.
