The new travel rules coming into effect in the UK from 4am Monday 4th October 2021 will put Nigeria as part of “rest of the world” list.

However, while vaccinated travellers from some countries in the new list will not need to quarantine, travellers from Nigeria will continue to follow existing rules as revealed by the British High Commission in Abuja in a released statement.

The High Commission published a statement on 26th September, saying: “We understand that there has been some frustration that the new UK travel rules will continue to require people travelling to the UK from Nigeria to quarantine despite having received two doses of recognised COVID-19 vaccines in Nigeria!

“Following a pilot with the United States and the European Union, the UK is working to recognise vaccine certificates from other countries as part of a phased review of the many COVID-19 vaccine certificates issued across the world.

“This includes recognising Nigeria’s vaccine certificates and – in the spirit of our long-term partnership – we are Woking with Nigeria’s National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) to ensure that this happens as soon as possible.”

The current rules pre 4th October for amber list countries are to take a pre-departure test that must be within 3 days to travelling, a day-2 and day-8 test which should be pre-booked to be taken on arrival back to England and a completed passenger locator form.

From 4th October the UK will change its current rule from the red, amber and green light system to “red” and “rest of the world” lists.

Travellers who have been in a red list countries in the last 10 days can only enter England if they are British, Irish National or have residence in the UK, must quarantine at the designated hotel with starting price of £2,285 for one person and complete a passenger locator form. This rule will continue past 4th October.
