The rules on flying in to Nigeria during this covid 19 pandemic is forever changing.

When borders re-opened after the first lockdown in 2020, travellers could fly into Nigeria with a negative PCR test and simply pay for the day 7 test at an approved centre once inside Nigeria – this has changed.

The current mandatory requirement to enter Nigeria, other than your flight ticket, travel documents and proof of negative PCR test, is to book and pay for the day 7 test using the Health Declaration/Self-Reporting Form, otherwise you will be denied entry onto the plane.

A detailed explanation can be found on Nigeria International Travel Portal Guideline.

How to complete the Pre-Boarding Health Declaration and Screening form

You will require proof of a negative PCR test to complete the form.

1, Firstly, access the Nigeria International Travel Portal

On the landing page, select the country you are departing from, state of departure, terminal, airline and then click on proceed.

All of these information should be on your flight ticket receipt.

2. Complete all sections

Once past the landing page, complete all sections. Fields such as residential address is related to permanent residence, the address at which you will stay in Nigeria for the purpose of quarantining will be asked in Destination in Nigeria section.

Again flight-related questions should be available on flight ticket receipt/itenary or contact the airline.

3. Pre and Post flight Covid-19 Test

You will be asked to upload proof of covid-19 tests and provide location of an approved test centre in Nigeria to take another on day 7.

4. Payment options

On successful completion of all required fields, the next stage is payment – which is available in Naira or Dollars.

If you choose to pay in Naira, any bank card will be accepted even though there are only three payment gateways – GTB, Access and UBA.

It should be possible to pay with other bank card using for example the transfer option where you will be present with account details to pay into. Payments can also be made with direct debit, card or in a local branch – OTP may be requested.

Once payment is approved you can download the receipt and obtain your QRCode by entering your details into SaferPort

5. Returning to make Payment

If you were not able to make payment at the initial stage the form was completed, it can be returned to by selecting Payments at the top of the homepage and enter requested details to proceed to making payment.

6. Update your record

Information you have added on the website can be changed by selecting Update Records at the top of the homepage and enter required information to proceed.

Returning to UK from Nigeria

The process for returning to the UK from Nigeria is very similar to going into the country. You will need proof of negative PCR test, a completed Passenger Locator form and a booked covid test to take on day 2 and 8 inside the UK – may vary from England, Scotland and Wales .

Some differences between the countries are that once inside the UK, you will receive a call from the UK government during your quarantine period, and you can choose to take the tests at a centre or at home.
