BBNaija: How to apply from abroad – outside Nigeria

Like it, share it

Khafi Kareem, Mike Edwards, Kiddwaya and TolaniBaj have all successfully made it into BBNaija despite being residents of Jand and Yankee. If they were able to, then you can too.

Here is all you need to know to apply from abroad.

The beauty of applying for Big Brother Nigeria, at least these days, are that applications are being completed online – owing mainly to the Corona Virus pandemic.

Eligibility Criteria

Firstly, to be considered as a contestant, all BBNaija asks for is that you have a Nigerian passport and must be over the age of 21.

If you do not yet have a Nigerian passport, you are eligible for one and are based in the UK, see how to get one here.

If you already applied for a Nigerian passport but its not ready then like what Ahneeka, previous BBNaija contestant did, obtain a passport slip to show as proof where asked.

Submit two-minute video and application form

The audition process including the form costs nothing, it is absolutely free.

Applications are currently closed but keep your eyes open on Africa Magic’s DSTV site for when it reopens.

Once it opens, you need to have a 2 minute recorded video of yourself ready to upload to the site and complete the online form.

A major tip gathered for when applying is to be yourself. Remember to introduce yourself – name and contact information. Tell Big Brother about you and how you interact with people around you that makes you unique, use real life experiences as examples.

As you are from abroad talk about your stand out life experiences from where you live and in Nigeria.

Avoid changing your accent to fit in, special video effects or copyrighted background music.

Look well kept when on camera with a well lit room so light can shine on your face and can be clearly seen. Talk clear and loud enough in a quiet space with limited distractions, and shoot using landscape (horizontally) of your camera instead of portrait (vertically).

There is supposedly a list of possible Big Brother Naija audition questions you can use as a guideline to prepare.

How Khafi made it onto Big Brother

On her YouTube page, Khafi shares how she made it into Big Brother Nigeria 2019 season four set by chance.

She was on a work and pleasure trip to Nigeria and was blogging about the 2019 Presidential elections when she saw adverts for the audition and decided to go for it.

Tips from 2020 online audition process

The 2020 auditions was different from Khafi and other previous contestants’ sets primarily because corona virus is in town, so most auditions were conducted online and via video call.

Applicants that made it to next stage were contacted by email and given a video interview. The ones that passed that stage attended the semi-finals interview in person in Lagos.

If you need to attend face to face interviews from abroad, a reasonable allowance for travelling and preparation time is wise.

If you have applied for passport but its yet to be printed, might be possible to apply for Emergency Travel Certificate, using it and passport application slip as proof.

Anyone can pick up your passport on your behalf if you already applied and wish to leave the UK so long as they have a copy of your slip to show.

Additional tips to know

From previous contestant’s experiences, there is no dress code. Dress as your most authentic self for all the interviews. Try to standout in your true nature, your true personality

If at any point BBNaija suspects foul play, fakery or false information you will be disqualified.

Made it into BBNaija house, what next?

Congratulations if you made it into the BBNaija house.

Now you made it, getting your things in order on the outside world before moving into the house might be a wise move.

Watching the current 2020 series and tips from past BBNaija contestant recommend you to be runway ready with prim clothes, shoes and makeup. Your hair will be styled regularly by the BB team.

While in the house, you will be hoping to increase your popularity, build a fan base and get the votes in, for this get someone or a team of publicity and social media experts to campaign on your behalf. Leave them with photos and information you want posted while away.

If its going to cost you money to get these people ensure they know what’s up in terms of what will trend and gain attraction. They play a crucial part of your success as they hype you all the way through your Big Brother journey.

If you have an existing brand do not be shy to start flaunting it right away with a link attached to your social media pages. If you do not have one, promote yourself as the brand.

Finally, remember to show confidence, stay unique and if you do not make the final round that time, like with any other reality show, keep trying and one day could be your day – never give up.

Good-luck!
