11 days to election and, the British Prime Minister, Theresa May turned up at Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Jesus House, London on Sunday to listen to the word of God – and position herself as suitable PM in the minds of black people.

In a video uploaded by the church, Mrs May listened, laughed and clapped as senior pastor of Jesus House in Brent Cross – Pastor Agu Irukwu – delivered a message on becoming citizens of God’s kingdom. He drew analogy between being citizens of God and how he became a British citizen after 4 years on a religious ministerial visa, with a seemingly impressed May when he commended the NHS.

May’s visit marks the importance of Nigerian and black community in election campaigns given majority of these voters tend to choose labour.

Given recent strings of deportation of Nigerian and Ghanians, May has an uphill battle appealing to the black community

If it is an attempt to attract these set of voters to choose her, then May faces an uphill battle in explaining what she has to offer given uncertainty of BREXIT on the community, the tougher stance on immigration and the recent wave of deportation of Nigerians and Ghanaian.

Though David Cameron also used this tactics in his run up to elections.
