UK’s Nigeria High Commission continues to have passport shortages despite an earlier announcement by The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) that its booklets are now available.
A statement released on Monday in Nigeria, signed by NIS’ Public Relations Officer – James Sunday claimed that there were passport booklets across all the service’s issuing centres in Nigeria and missions abroad.
He said: “It would be recalled that on 2nd March this year, the Service did inform the public about a shortfall in the supply of Passport Booklets in our system”
“You may wish to note that the situation has since been resolved following government’s intervention and normalcy restored in all the Issuing Centres as contained in our Press Release of 6th April, 2017.”
“The Comptroller General is by the notice encouraging all deserving passport applicants to approach the nearest passport offices to them directly to process their Passports and avoid patronising touts who may make the process difficult for them.”
The public are been advised to disregard further misinformation about scarcity of the passport booklets and contact nis.servicom@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng for complaints/challenges.
Though the UK’s High Commision officially announced the shortage in March, this issue has been persisting since at least December 2016.
